Upline: You and Me
Suspension Lock-offs, Upline Techniques, and Gear

First, we developed good foundations in rope bondage. Second, we created solid harnesses and found the joys of floor work. This class is the first class of ROPE 300 series (Static partials and suspension) where we start to move from the ground to the air. This class will cover attachment points, lock-offs, upline management techniques, and rigging gear. This class is designed for people who are starting suspension and can offer a useful perspective for established riggers.

(…and can offer a space for established riggers to exchange ideas.)

Materials:
Students are encouraged to bring a safe cutting device, at least four (4) pieces of rope at least 20-30ft long, and applicable rigging hardware (ring, carabiners, plate, straps, etc.). Also suggested is a mat or blanket for sitting on the floor.

Prerequisites:
All Students are expected to identify basic vocabulary, safety concerns and materials of rope bondage. Tying/Topping Students MUST also be able to tie a non-cinching single column knot

Bottom Led Tying

It's not topping from the bottom, I swear! Well...maybe a little. In this class we will discuss and lab what rope looks like when the person in rope is directing the scene. Attendees will leave with knowledge on:

The "What" and "Why" of this kind of tying

Benefits for the person tying and the person in rope

Considerations for this type of play

Specific needs for the person tying and the person in rope

There will be a demonstration, and then it will be your turn to practice. So bottoms, warm up your vocal cords!

This class is suitable for multiple rope skill levels as it can be adapted from simple ties to full suspensions.

Self-Tie Sessions: Under Pressure

Self-tying can be used to explore intense sensation, practice mindfulness, build partnered bondage skills, and more. This session begins with Shay's Safety Speed Round (so she can sleep at night), intention, rope handling basics, and by teaching the building blocks of a lark’s head and half hitch. Following that, we will move into discussion & practice of compression-based self-ties, including exercises focused on tension and aesthetic intention explored through variations on a mermaid tie, chest tie, and intense foot and calf self-bondage.

No rope experience is necessary – this is a welcoming, stand-alone, beginner-level class.

The SCARECROW pattern (lowers)

The SCARECROW Pattern is a harness template that can be used as chest harness (arms in or out), box tie, strappado, thigh binder, calf binder or whatever other way you can think to apply the harness. This is a hands-on class that focuses on harnesses that can be done on the lower half of the body. These ties can be done with a partner or as a self-tyer.

Materials:
Students are encouraged to bring a safe cutting device and at least four (4) pieces of rope at 20-30 ft long. Also suggested is a mat or blanket for sitting on the floor.

Prerequisites:
All Students are expected to identify basic vocabulary, safety concerns and materials of rope bondage. Tying/Topping Students MUST also be able to tie a non-cinching single column knot.

This course is crafted for tying pairs, switches, and self-tiers alike! I will go over safety considerations and key points for upline management, specifically related to human hardpointism. Unpaired? No prob! We will facilitate grouping up as needed! Might even make a new friend or three. My team and I will be available throughout participant tying time to provide guidance or to give evil suggestions, if desired! No doubt you’ll learn, explore, play, and laugh a lot!

Lower body harness variety pack

Lower body harnesses are foundational for many suspensions…or make great handles for bedroom bondage! After discussing basics like wrap placement and risk awareness, Shay will survey the class, and attendees will vote for the ties they most want to learn. Based on popular demand (and perhaps a bit of cajoling to choose her favorites), ties covered may include a swiss seat, drum harness, woven hip harness, gunslinger, mermaid tie, leg ladder, futomomo, and the elegantly named Butt Rainbow Thigh Tie of Doom.

All the ties shown in this class are suspension-worthy; Shay will demonstrate attaching hangers and using them for suspension, and participants with adequate experience can also get airborne. Attendees are also welcome to come and stick with floorwork, as most of the class will focus on the harnesses themselves. Self-tyers welcome.

Arms Front Chest Harness

Start restricting more movement by bringing the arms in on your chest harnesses. Moving past the basic two band chest harness can sometimes be scary and difficult. Where does one start? What new safety risks are involved? How do you build it with enough structure for rough body play or possibly suspension, or even just to restrict that extra wiggly worm? This class will cover all the information needed to start advancing your basic bondage knowledge and needs.

Prerequisites - single column and a basic 2 band chest harness

Binding Intentions: Utilizing Rope in Ritual, Energy Work, and Other Practices

Rope is an extension of self, a means of communication, and a transformative tool. Through a combination of rope binding and pressure, physical touch, and cultivating an awareness of shared experience, participants will learn techniques that can be used for various types of energy exchange, ritual practice, or to deepen the connection between partners. Participants will explore this tool through discussion, demonstration, hands-on exercises, and ritual practice. An understanding of energy work is assumed; however, no prior rope knowledge is assumed or required.

Tying For Eels

Escape artists are a special breed of rope fans. Often they are secretly disappointed if they are tied in a way that they can eel out easily.

This class covers techniques that can be used to restrain willing partners inescapably. We cover the safety issues that are unique to eeling scenes including the urge to thrash, and how to tie so that partners are able to experience competitive thrashing or panic.

Hints for gamification of eeling scenes are included so that attendees can enhance their styles of play.

We cover the psychology of eeling including the (often accidental and unintentional) power exchange which can occur when a skilled escape artist finds out that they cannot escape a tie they were sure they could slip.

We demonstrate the making of Solomon bar rope cuffs that provide the magic cross between actual cuffs and a rope tie.

Suitable audiences: Beginners to advanced rope fans love this class.

Rope: Any rope works but folks learn that nylon rope is often a better fit because knots can be untied by secured hands and toes.

Thinking About Harnesses – Suspendable Thigh Options

Why do we tie the things we tie? In this class, let’s forget about patterns. Instead, we’ll start by asking what we want our thigh harnesses to do once we suspend. Depending on what the class wants their harnesses to do, we’ll figure out what components we want to include and start building our harnesses. Recommended – “Fundamentals – Frictions and Knots.” Participants wanting to load the harnesses should also have solid up-line management skills.

Suspension Without a Plan

A lack of a plan does not mean a lack of intention. To safely break the rules, one must first learn them. In this class, I will help you become more adaptable and creative as we explore how to leverage our existing skills and knowledge, while trusting ourselves to innovate. One of my favorite aspects of this play is that by not micromanaging and staying present, we discover beautiful (and often hilarious) places we never knew existed.

SKILL LEVEL:
-Intermediate

PRE-REQS:
-Tying folx need solid up line management, a suspendable chest and lower body harness, negotiation skills, basic anatomy of nerves and pressure points.
-Those in rope need suspension experience, body awareness, and excellent verbal communication skills while in rope and in suspension.
-Self-tiers need all of the above AND self-suspension experience.

TO BRING:
-Tying participants will need full rope kit, carabiners, preferred suspension equipment, straps, cutters (*must be able to keep on person if self-tying), etc.

A Weave for What Ails You

Whatever your rigging problem, weaving is probably the answer! This class will discuss and demonstrate weaving as a general concept that can be integrated into many common ties and will use these techniques in teaching at least two pattern ties. Weaving makes your harnesses more comfortable & sustainable, helps maintain tension while keeping bondage flat, and creates a sleek & sexy aesthetic…while also being easy to learn & execute! Harness options include hip or chest harnesses, gravity boot, and foot cuff. Depending on time and class experience level, side-suspension sequence using these harnesses may also be covered.

Level: Beginning to intermediate. This class is self-tying friendly; however, the chest harness is an intermediate to advanced level self-tie that requires tying high behind your back.

Pre-requisites: Basic rope handling skills, body awareness, knowledge of bondage negotiation basics

Supplies: 2-3 pieces of ~30 foot rope, 2-3 pieces of ~10-15 foot rope. 6mm is recommended, but no larger than 8mm.

Bondage 101

This class is part bottom’s buffet and part demonstration and lecture on the How and Why of bondage.

Class members will sample handcuffs, duct tape, zip ties, straitjackets, shrink wrap, leather cuffs, chains, and of course rope.

We touch on the psychology of tying and being tied. Newcomers often arrive at cons with a narrow idea of what constitutes bondage, and then are worried when the first few things they see don’t match up to what they had imagined. Thus the focus of this class is on widening the experience of new bondage enthusiasts while validating their various interests in all the expressions of bondage.

We model consent as The Way that everyone will want to engage their future bondage partners.

Suitability: New people are the target of this class.

Rope: No rope is needed for this class.
